TRIO 258
TRIO 258
TRIO258 consists of pianist Lestari Scholtes, violinist Eduardo Paredes Crespo, and cellist Leonard Besseling—three passionate musicians with a rich history in chamber music, both domestically and internationally.
Formed in 2015 in an inspiring rehearsal room at Keizersgracht 258 in Amsterdam, the trio’s name pays tribute to the place where it all began. Fittingly, just a few floors below, Leonard’s cello was crafted by his father, violin maker Matthieu Besseling. Since their founding, Trio 258 has performed at leading venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, TivoliVredenburg Utrecht, and the Opéra National de Bordeaux, as well as at renowned festivals including the Storioni Festival, Grachtenfestival, and Delft Chamber Music Festival. Their performances are also regularly featured on Dutch television programs like Podium Witteman and Podium Klassiek, and across various NPO Klassiek radio broadcasts.
Driven by their shared passion for chamber music, the trio continuously explores the emotional depth and expressive freedom of the repertoire—seeking a sound that combines intimacy, vulnerability, and individuality. Their approach is inspired by a romantic ideal: music as a living dialogue, unrestricted and deeply personal.
Trio 258’s repertoire spans from Haydn to Fazıl Say, with a natural focus on the Romantic piano trio tradition. Their debut album, The Return (Challenge Records, 2023), was warmly received by critics from NRC, Trouw, and Pizzicato Magazine. Their next album, Bohemian Lecagy, will be released in February 2026.
***** "...the three musicians dose tastefully in an always intense, exciting interpretation, using the exuberance of melodies and themes to stir up contrasts and give the work the great Russian soul that distinguishes it." - Pizzicato Magazine
